about

(Macedonian Rom) “Wake up, wake up, father, the drum is beating... they’re coming for my sister.” This is a joyous and exuberant song about the moment during a wedding ceremony when the bride’s dowry, the cheiz, is brought out of her house. The Roma (preferred name for “Gypsies”) dance the čoček to this tune.
